The Aerolase LightPod Neo is the only 1064nm laser on the market that produces high-powered laser pulses (up to 318 Joules/cm2 on a 2mm spot) with a revolutionary 0.65 millisecond pulse duration, which is shorter than the Thermal Relaxation Time of the skin tissue surrounding the follicle, blood vessel or other targeted tissue structure. As a result, the laser-generated heat is effectively sealed within the target, as it does not have time to conduct outward to the surrounding skin, thus increasing treatment efficacy. Also, because the 0.65 msec laser pulses pass through the skin 5 to 50 times faster than those used by traditional long pulse Nd:YAG lasers they do not overheat the epidermal melanin thus eliminating pain and reducing risk of pigmentary changes. For treatment of larger volume varicose vessels, LightPod Neo also incorporates the 1.5 millisecond pulse duration.

Unique 650-microsecond Technology
The breakthrough of 650-microsecond pulse technology enables the production of high and low fluences ranging from 4 j/cm2 to 255 j/cm2 all within this single 650µsec pulse duration. Through clinical trials and research, Aerolase established this as the optimal pulse duration for enabling LightPod lasers to deliver energy deep into the targeted tissue with minimal absorption by epidermal melanin. This avoids thermal overstressing of the skin, eliminating treatment pain and diminishing the risk of any adverse effects commonly caused by the previous generation of long-pulse lasers. As a result, laser procedures can be performed without needing to cool the skin during treatment, even on skin of color. This, in turn, saves the practitioner a lot of cost, time and mess due to the elimination of cooling gels, sprays and anesthetics.
MicroPulse-1064™ technology represents an innovation that has changed the field of laser medicine. By delivering uniquely high optical power in a pulse duration of 0.65 ms which is slightly less than the TRT (Thermal Relaxation Time) of skin tissue, LightPod lasers heat targeted tissue structures faster to achieve higher temperatures within the target. This method of selective photothermolysis results in higher clearance of undesired tissue structures.
LightPod lasers deliver energy deep to the targeted tissue with lesser epidermal absorption. Thermal overstressing of epidermal melanin and excess heating of nerve endings in the dermis are both avoided, virtually eliminating treatment pain and pigmentary risk. As a result, laser procedures can be performed without needing to cool the skin during treatment, even on darker skin types. The fact that the laser handpiece does not touch the skin during treatment is another unique safety feature as well as a patient pleaser.
